Lip retraction disrupts the balance of the lower face and makes the nose and chin appear larger in proportion. This creates a harsher, more "manly" appearance since softness, so typically associated with femininity, is no longer present. 

The relationship between the upper and the lower lip is also very important. When the lower lip becomes less prominent than the upper lip, the harmony and charm of the mouth is disrupted.

It is therefore understandable that lip remodeling becomes necessary with time and can be advantageous to the overall appearance of the face.

Regardless of fashion or trends, lip redefinition is considered essential to creating a younger looking face. The vermilion lip is a semi-mucous that loses much of its volume with age. To regain the fullness of the lips, their original volume must be restored.

With facial fillers such as Juvéderm^TM, lips and their contours are redefined. Made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar naturally produced by the body, this gel also stimulates the natural production of collagen. In general, Juvéderm™ remains effective for approximately nine months or more.

Vertical lines and wrinkles around the lip can be very ungraceful and let lipstick run. The appearance of these wrinkles is related to a loss of tissue around the mouth (fatty tissue, muscle, sagging skin, etc).

The facial filler Juvéderm™ associated with Botox® is the most effective treatment to reduce wrinkles around the mouth. It is often necessary to restore the volume of the upper lip by highlighting the hem of the lip, that is to say, the separation between the white lip and red lip.
